A 21-year-old man accused of breaking into a woman’s house earlier this month was remanded to prison yesterday.

Trevano Smith, of Moss Town, Exuma, was arrested after police said he broke into Terry-Anne Rolle’s home on the island with intent to commit a felony sometime between December 17 and December 18.

It is further alleged that around 4.30 am on December 18, the accused assaulted a police officer, resisted arrest and also issued threats of death.

During his hearing before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle-Davis, Smith was not required to enter a plea to the burglary charge.

However, he denied the remaining offences.

After recording his not guilty pleas, Magistrate Rolle-Davis granted him bail at $800 with one surety and adjourned the matter for trial in Exuma to February 2.

Regarding the burglary charge, Smith was told he would have to apply to the Supreme Court for bail.

In a separate matter, 35-year-old Lathario Clarke was arraigned on one count each of shopbreaking and stealing for actions he allegedly committed on May 2.

Clarke was arrested after he was accused of breaking into the Department of Agriculture’s Animal Control Unit and stealing an assortment of items, including one pack each of tissue, canned juices and chips all valued at $99.

He denied the offences during his hearing before Magistrate Shaka Serville yesterday and the matter was adjourned to January 11 for a bail hearing.
