NCAA Div 2: Bahamian players on streaks

SEVERAL Bahamian basketball players at the NCAA Division II level took respective win streaks into a brief winter break.

Jordan McFall and Slippery Rock won their sixth consecutive game with an 86-81 win over West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference home victory at Murrow Fieldhouse in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania.

Despite being held scoreless and playing just two minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, McFall finished with 21 points on 8-10 shooting from the field and added six rebounds.

Slippery Rock improved to 9-2 overall and leads the PSAC at a perfect 5-0 record thus far. They also have the longest active winning streak in the Atlantic Region.

In his first year with the programme, the junior guard is averaging a team leading 17.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

The Rock will return to the court on January 5 when they host Pitt-Johnson.

Malachi McCoy and his Benedict Tigers won their eighth consecutive game with a 71-62 win over the Kentucky State Thorobreds at the Benjamin E Mays HRC Arena.

McCoy finished with his third double double of the season - 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tigers improved to 9-3 overall and 6-0 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The junior forward is nearly averaging a double double in his third season with the Tigers at 9.6 points and a team-leading 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 57 percent from the field.

Benedict takes a break for the Christmas holiday and will return to action with a road game at Lane College on January 5.

Lathaniel Bastian and the Angelo State Rams men’s basketball got its second straight win after a pair of losses with an 85-75 win over Arlington State at Stephens Arena in the Junell Center.

The Rams are now at 9-2 overall and will begin Lone Star Conference play on December 31 against St Edward’s.

In 11 games with nine starts, Bastian is the team’s leading rebounder at 7.2 per game, and is fourth in scoring at 11.9 points per game.

The Newberry Wolves have a pair of Bahamians on their roster - Sherman Robinson and Malik Joseph.

Robinson finished with eight points and a team high seven rebounds in a 66-65 win over Lenoir-Rhyne at Shuford Memorial Gym in Hickory, NC. His past two appearances have been his best of the season and the only games where he played in double figure minutes for the first time in the programme.

Joseph’s best performance of his freshman season was a 17-point performance in just 14 minutes off the bench of a November 23 win over Wingate. He is averaging 3.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

Jevaughn Ferguson is averaging 4.3 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for the William Jewell Cardinals in his third season with the programme.

As a freshman he averaged 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in 26 appearances and averaged 4.4 points and 2.6 rebounds last season in 14 games with seven starts.
