Man shot in the hand during car chase with police

POLICE said a man was shot in the hand during a car chase in Grand Bahama on Wednesday.

The car was being pursued by police after officers saw its occupants open fire on another vehicle.

Police said shortly after 6pm, a team of officers from the Predator Unit were conducting routine patrols on Warren J Levarity Highway when they heard the sound of gunshots.

“The officers then observed the occupants of a silver coloured Nissan Note vehicle discharging a firearm in the direction of a black Charger vehicle,” police said in a crime report.

The officers pursued the car and the occupants of the Nissan fired in the direction of the police car, the RBPF said.

Police said the officers were in fear for their lives and discharged their service weapons in the direction of the Nissan.

The pursuit continued and ended in the area of South Bahamia where the Nissan crashed into bushes. Police said the occupants fled the vehicle and a high-powered weapon was found inside the car.

Two men were found when police searched nearby bushes. Police said during the pursuit, one of the suspects was shot in the right hand. He was taken to hospital where he is listed in serious, but stable condition.

Meanwhile, one of the men in the Charger reported that he was shot in the right leg by one of the occupants of the Nissan. The victim was taken to hospital where his condition is listed as serious, but stable.

Police are also investigating a shooting that took place in New Providence on Wednesday.

Sometime after 9pm, police were informed of a shooting incident that occurred on Morley Street. Investigations revealed that the occupants of a small Japanese vehicle were travelling along Morley Street, when they heard the sound of gunshots.

Moments later one of the passengers, a man, realised that he had been shot in his right hand.

He was then taken to hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Investigations are continuing.
