Police seize over $20k fake currency

Police seized more than $22,000 in counterfeit Bahamian currency last year even though the ratio of fake notes to genuine bills appears to be dropping.

Royal Bahamas Police Force and Central Bank officials, in a counterfeit currency webinar held on Friday, said fake or forged Bahamian dollar bank notes had dropped to a ratio of between one to two out of every 1m genuine bills.

Disclosing that the $20 note is the one most commonly targeted by counterfeiters, often using an inkjet printer as their means of production, officials disclosed that bars, nightclubs, food stores, commercial banks and churches were among the businesses and organisations that most frequently fell victim to fake bank notes.
