A MAN who claimed he violated the nightly curfew because he went to drop off his children at home was fined $600 yesterday.

Police arrested Travis Andrews, 34, after they spotted him driving around 11pm on February 2. The prosecution alleged Andrews was also unable to produce a form of ID when asked and accused him of resisting arrest when they tried to detain him.

He pleaded guilty to breaching the curfew, violating the requirement to carry a government-issued ID and resisting the lawful arrest of a police sergeant when he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney.

The court was told officers stopped Andrew’s vehicle. When officers asked to see his ID, he was unable to produce it. He was asked to get out of his vehicle and was informed he was being arrested. The prosecution said as Sgt 2603 Wilson attempted to apprehend Rolle, he started to resist. He was detained and taken to the East Street South station where he denied the allegations.

Yesterday, Andrews told the magistrate he was on the road because he went to “drop his kids off” at their mother’s home. He saud when officers asked him to come out of his car, he asked what he did wrong and the next thing he knew, he was being handcuffed.

Magistrate McKinney fined him $500 or three months in prison for breaking curfew and another $100 or one month in custody for travelling without a government issued ID. Andrews was also bound over to keep the peace for one year. If he fails to do so, he could risk being fined $500 or spending three months behind bars.
