SEVERAL Bahamian student-athletes are having an immediate impact on their respective programmes at the Junior College level.

Raschard Greene is charting among the top players in all of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in several advanced analytics categories and points per possession.

A redshirt freshman guard for the Hill College Rebels, Greene has an adjusted field goal percentage of 64.3 and is scoring 1.128 points per possession (PPP).

He ranks No.12 in both categories among qualified players, according to Synergy Sports’ measurement of NJCAA half-court offence.

Adjusted FG percentage measures shooting efficiency by taking into account the total points a player produces through his field-goal attempts.

Points Per Possession explains how efficiently a player or team uses their time with the basketball to score points. The greater the PPP, the greater efficiency a player or team has at scoring points during their possession.

Green is averaging 11.7 points, six rebounds and 1.2 assists per game through seven games. He is shooting 64 percent from the field and made his only three-point attempt thus far this season.

He made his season debut with 13 points on a perfect 5-5 day from the field in Hill’s first matchup against DFW Prep. He had a season-high 18 points on 9-11 shooting against Odessa College and finished with 15 points on 6-10 shooting in the second matchup against DFW Prep.

Hill is off to a 5-2 start to the season in NJCAA Region V. Greene, a 6’ 3” guard, was a member of the St John’s College Giants before he made the transition to St Louis Christian in St Louis, Missouri.

Davonte Jennings has moved into the starting lineup for the Seward County Community College Saints. After playing just four minutes off the bench in his collegiate debut, Jennings got the start the following game and finished with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in an 81-77 win over Cowley College. He also had nine points, four rebounds and four assists in a loss to Coffeyville Community College.

Seward’s proposed matchup against Neosho County Community College was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols.

Jennings, a 6’1” point guard, played locally in Grand Bahama with the St George’s Jaguars before concluding his high school years among the Bahamian pipeline of students at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas.

Lathaniel Bastian and his Trinity Valley Community College are off to a 5-1 start to the season in NJCAA Region XIV.

After a loss in their season debut, the Cardinals have reeled off five consecutive wins. Bastian has averaged 4.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game on 52 percent shooting from the field. The senior forward scored a season-high 10 points against Jacksonville College. He posted seven points and 10 rebounds against Navarro College.

In August, Bastian participated in the All-American Junior College Basketball Showcase in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

The showcase was designed for the players to play in front of a national audience on ESPN, CBS Sports and Rivals with NBA personnel and numerous other national media and scouting services on hand.
