MAN WHO GAVE FALSE NAME IS FINED

A MAN who gave police officers a false name when he was stopped for a traffic violation was yesterday fined $150.

Wilson Tourson, 46, was arrested after he lied to Police Corporal 3972 Cadet on February 5.

The prosecution said officers on foot patrol on Marlborough Street stopped Tourson after they noticed his vehicle’s disk did not match his plates. When the officers asked Tourson his name was, he told them his surname was Charles. However, the officers realised he was lying after he gave them his ID which had his real name printed on it. Tourson was subsequently arrested and taken to a nearby station. In an interview with police there, he admitted lying to officers and said he only did so because he was afraid.

During the hearing, Tourson also said he lied because he knew he had a pending traffic ticket and got a “little nervous” after he was approached by police.

After pleading guilty to the offence, he was fined $150 or one month on remand.
