A HARBOUR Island man who last week swung a metal bar at a man before threatening to kill him was sentenced to three months in prison.
Perez Johnson, 41, appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes accused of harassing the man at a local beach in the settlement on February 9.
He pleaded guilty to one count each of assault with a dangerous instrument and threats of harm during his arraignment.
The court was told Johnson’s victim was at a house near the beach when the defendant approached him with an iron bar and began swinging it at him while threatening to take his life. The man then ran away and reported the matter to officers. After he requested police action, Johnson was arrested. When he was questioned in custody, he admitted the offences.
After accepting Johnson’s guilty plea, Magistrate Forbes told him he could not just go around swinging metal pipes at people. He also noted that a harsher charge could have been brought against Johnson if he had ended up hitting the complainant. As a result, he sentenced him to three months at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
