CHARLES Bain’s scoring output since last week’s senior night has been his best stretch of the season to highlight play from Bahamian student athletes in NCAA Division I basketball last weekend.

The Robert Morris Colonials concluded the regular season with a pair of losses to the Detroit Mercy Titans, but Bain had several season highs in the two-game set when he averaged 18.5 points and shot 51.7 percent (15-for-29) from the field.

In Friday’s 85-74 loss, Bain produced the best offensive performance of his senior season with a season-high 19 points.

He shot 8-16 from the field and grabbed four rebounds.

Two nights later, in an 80-61 loss, Bain led the Colonials for the second consecutive game in scoring with a game-high 18 points and team leading seven rebounds.

Bain has scored double figures in four consecutive games. He scored a previous season high 12 points in the previous weekend’s series as the Colonials split a pair with the Oakland Golden Grizzlies.

The Colonials concluded the regular season at 4-14 and now look to the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament. They will face the Titans once again at 7pm on Thursday, February 25.

In Conference-USA, Radshad Davis was finally back in the lineup for the FIU Panthers for the first time in over a month as he rehabbed from an ankle injury.

Davis struggled with a season low two points and shot 1-10 from the field in 29 minutes of his team’s 85-72 loss to Southern Mississippi on Friday night.

Due to COVID-19 related issues on the Southern Miss men’s basketball team, and out of an abundance of caution, the second game of the series was cancelled. Davis last appeared on the floor on January 14 when he scored 16 points against FAU before he left the floor with an apparent ankle injury.

In his first season with the Panthers as a graduate transfer, Davis is averaging 12.5 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

They conclude the regular season in an upcoming weekend series on the road against the Western Kentucky Colonels.

Head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and senior point guard Valerie Nesbitt continue their difficult trek through a difficult Southeastern Conference schedule.

Ole Miss fell to 9-9, 3-9 in the SEC with Sunday’s 66-55 loss to the No.5 Mississippi State Bulldogs.

“A lot of things went well for us and a lot didn’t go well for us. Missed opportunities. There were stretches where (Texas A&M) showed a lot of maturity in the fourth quarter. We didn’t answer the call. To beat them, you have to have a complete game, and we didn’t. Our turnovers and fouls just killed us,” McPhee-McCuin said.

“I think there are five SEC teams that could be in the Final Four. (Texas A&M) was one of them. They turned it on when they needed to turn it on. We need to make better decisions. The situation is that we have to continue to grow.”

The schedule gets tougher from here when Ole Miss travels to face the No.2 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks on February 25, followed by their second game of the season against the No.17 ranked Kentucky Wildcats on February 28.

Ole Miss defeated Kentucky on February 4.

“We’re going to try to get these next two. Call me crazy, but that’s our goal,” McPhee-McCuin said. “We have to grow through these games if we’re wanting to go to the tournament. We’re playing good teams. Our NET is still high, and it will be after this game. We need a postseason desperately.”
