Follow the rules and avoid deaths

EDITOR, The Tribune.

I see that government publishes a regular report on the number of Covid-19 cases throughout the 15 islands of the Bahamas.

At last count I understand that there was a total of 8496 cases spread throughout the islands with New Providence having the largest number - 6139.

Then I heard the shattering news that as of this writing 500,000 persons had died of COVID in the US, and reflected that an infection of that magnitude could remove our entire population, estimated at 392,244 souls, from the face of this earth.

Despite this, we have the light-headed jeering because the rules of lock down, social distancing, etc, are being constantly changed - especially annoying being the curfew and the lockdown.

There is no way that one looks at it can anyone be certain that a sure cure can be found, but the cavalier flouting of the basic rules — no masks, sneaking out after curfew for drinks with friends in a bar that should be closed — is completely irresponsible.

No one has answers — whatever we do is better, if only to protect our own life, to follow the rules.

Yes, the rules are inconvenient, but so is a funeral. And there is no one to blame because no one has the answers.

The best that can be said is that until this pandemic runs its course, we should be taking all safety precautions, not only for our own well being, but also for our family, friends and our Bahamas.
