Izaak Bastian and Seminoles continue undefeated season

IZAAK Bastian and the No.16 Florida State Seminoles swimming and diving programme were back in the pool for the first time since late November and continued their undefeated season.

The Seminoles defeated the LSU Tigers 170.50 - 91.50 to improve to 3-0 at the Morcom Aquatics Center in Tallahassee, Florida, on Friday.

Bastian’s 200-yard medley relay team began the meet on a high note for the Seminoles by setting a new site record in the event.

He teamed with Mason Herbet, Domen Demsar and Peter Varjasi to finish in 1:26.85 seconds which surpassed the mark of 1:27.30 set by the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2018.

Individually, Bastian finished third in the 100 yard Breast in 55.32 and third in the 200 yard Breast in 2:00.26.

“I thought we had a pretty good day. We’ve only been back in the water this week and I liked what I saw,” said FSU head coach Neal Studd. We had some great swims from both teams and I am really proud of the effort.”

The Seminoles will return to the Morcom Aquatics Center for a meet against Gardner-Webb om January 16.

Bastian’s junior season began with an active November once competition began.

He finished third in the 200 yard breast (1:56.72) and fourth (54.36) in the 100m breast at the Georgia Invite.

He was also 11th in the 50 yard free (20.45) and was a member of the third place 200 medley relay.

Against TCU, he finished third in the 100 yard breast (55.32) and 200 yard breast (2:00.26).

In the only ACC meet of the season thus far, Bastian won the 100 yard breast (55.40) and was second in the 200 yard breast (2:04.23) against RV Georgia Tech.
