A San Salvador business owner yesterday said she was “impressed” by how Crystal Cruises guests were treated when they visited the island last week.

Allison Mortimer, co-owner of J’s Discount in San Salvador, told Tribune Business she had a “great time” when passengers from the cruise line’s Crystal Serenity vessel made their inaugural call on the island last week.

Ms Mortimer said: “We had them all under a big tent, where we had ten vendors for the guests. Then they had a beach set-up for the guests with chairs and umbrellas. They had a guy selling coconuts and a conch salad stand. They had two different bar stands serving local drinks. It was really well organised.

“The tour operators took them to various sites around the island. I know the tour people made some money because everybody wanted to go on a tour of the island. We have a place called High Cay on the eastern side of the island that has a lagoon tour and there’s a beautiful beach in the back there.”

Ms Mortimer said she joined the tour with the guests, adding: “I didn’t even work, I stayed the entire time having a good time.

“There was no garbage left behind by the guests either.

“They had waiters and waitresses waiting around ready to collect empty bottles and cups while they were relaxing. We didn’t have any problems with garbage at all.”

“Everything was organised and in place.

“We had adequate sanitising stations when they came off of the ship, they had sanitising stations when they got to their appointed locations. They had everything well put together.”
