THE Flamingos Women’s Golf Club 242 hosted its Independence Day 9 Hole Tournament “Celebrate Den” on Saturday at the Bahamas Golf Federation’s Nine Hole Sporting Complex.

The 9-hole tournament had 18 participants, who played in 3 person teams using a scramble format.

The lowest team tournament score to date came from the winning team of Helen Saunders, Louisa Holowesko and Antoinette Russell with a score of 26 gross. Notably, Bahamas junior national team member, Tyesha Tynes, played in the event alongside her mother Nathalee Tynes and with the help of Fran Dillet, they finished second on a count back with a score of 29.

“The teams played extremely well and it is great to see that scores are improving.

“It is important to have a women’s golf community that encourages development and growth of new and or existing golfers in a welcoming environment.

“The Flamingos Women’s Golf Club 242 provides just that through weekly golf clinics, play dates and tournaments,” said Alena Hutcheson, who organised the tournament.

“Overall, I’m happy that I get to be a part of it and congratulations to all of our participants.

“We are looking forward to our future tournaments and would definitely like to thank those sponsors that are supporting us in this initiative, including Pirate Republic, Cotton Tree Convenience Store, Craig Flowers, The Bahamas Golf Federation Ladies Division and Kenny Fountain,” she added.
