Abaco man shot by police

AN Abaco man “who pointed an unidentified object” at an officer was shot by police yesterday.

The incident took place shortly after noon when officers from the Marsh Harbour Police Station were at the Ernest Dean Highway conducting a speed check.

Officers observed a gray coloured vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.

Subsequently, a pursuit followed, when the driver abandoned the vehicle and a foot chase commenced, police said.

“While running away, the suspect pointed an unidentified object in the direction of the officer who was pursuing him,” police said.

“In response the officer became in fear of his life and drew his service revolver and fired in the direction of the male, hitting him in the left buttocks area.”

The suspect was taken to the Marsh Harbour Clinic for medical attention.

An investigation is ongoing.
