A 38-year-old man who denied breaking into a woman’s car and stealing $2,000 worth of items was yesterday granted bail ahead of his trial.

Police arrested Kevin Mortimer after he was accused of smashing the car window of Ashley Rolle’s 2011 Kia to steal two designer purses worth $200 each and $1,600 cash.

During his hearing before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle Davis, Mortimer claimed he was not the one driving the rental car that the culprit was caught on Mrs Rolle’s surveillance footage driving her car.

Instead, he claimed he had loaned his car to another man, but said after the police could not find the other man he was charged with the offence.

As a result, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf and the case was adjourned to August 31 for trial.

Mortimer was granted $5,000 in the interim.
