A MAN cut his former girlfriend on the wrist with a box cutter during a drunken rage, a court was told yesterday.

Paul Campbell was arrested after he was accused of assaulting and threatening to kill his former girlfriend on May 30, 2021.

He denied the allegations when he first appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle Davis and the case was adjourned for trial.

When Campbell’s former girlfriend gave evidence yesterday, she said she and Campbell shared a two-bedroom apartment with another couple. She said on the evening in question, their roommates “had a situation” where the woman brought another man into the apartment. She said when Campbell saw this, he notified their male roommate who came home and asked the woman to leave.

Campbell’s ex said after the woman was kicked out she asked her for a ride. She said when she returned to the apartment after dropping the woman elsewhere, an “intoxicated” Campbell “aggressively” approached her and told her to tell their male roommate that she saw his partner bring another man into their unit.

The witness said when she told the accused she did not see anything, he began arguing with her so she went into the room to lay down. The woman said when she did, Campbell followed her and told her if she went to sleep he was going to kill her. She said this made her fearful so she tried to get up and leave, but Campbell “charged towards” her with a box cutter. She said when she put her hands up in self defence, Campbell ended by slicing her on her wrist before punching her with his other hand. The court was told the woman called the police a short time later and reported the matter.

During the hearing, Campbell was represented by attorney Dion Smith. When he cross-examined the witness, he suggested that she had made up the allegations because she was angry at her ex-boyfriend.

In response, she said the incident was not the first time that Campbell had threatened her.

The case continues on August 30.
