Season ends for Bahamian college baseball players

Both Bahamian collegiate baseball players saw their seasons come to an end at the regional level in 2021 NCAA Tournament.

Ellison Hanna II and the Indiana State Sycamores, the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Nashville Regional were eliminated by No.2 seed Georgia Tech while Allbry Major and the Arizona State Sun Devils, the No. 2 seed in the Austin Regional were eliminated by No.XX Fairfield.

Hanna hit .429 in the Sycamores’ three tournament games and scored five runs. He went 3-4 and scored two runs as his team opened play with a 7 - 6 loss in the first matchup against Georgia Tech.

He followed with a 3-4 night and three runs in a 9 -2 win over Presbyterian to stay alive in the bracket and went hit less in the second loss to Georgia Tech.

In 26 games this season, Hanna hit .337 with 30 hits, 20 RBI, 28 runs, five home runs, seven doubles and two triples.

Indiana State finished the season 31-21 and were runners up in the Missouri Valley Conference Championships.

Hanna was selected to the MVC Baseball All-Tournament team. The redshirt senior outfielder finished the tournament hitting .278 (5-18), with five runs, nine RBI and three home-runs.

The 2021 season came to an end for Major and the Sun Devil baseball programme Sunday afternoon with a 9 - 7 loss to Fairfield in the elimination bracket of the Austin Regional.

Major went 0 - 1 in his only appearance at the regionals, the season finale.

Arizona State opened the tournament with a 7 - 6 walk off win over Fairfield in the first matchup between the two teams. They followed with a 10-3 loss to No.2 Texas on Saturday.

In his first season on the field for the Sun Devils after he transferred from the Xavier Musketeers, Major hit .200 with 11 hits, 10 RBI, nine runs scored and two home runs.

As an outfielder and pitcher, he was a standout two way player for Xavier in the Big East for the first few years of his collegiate career where he garnered numerous accolades.

As a freshman in 2018 Major won BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, was Second Team All-BIG EAST and was also named Baseball America’s Preseason BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. He hit .291 with a pair of home runs and 21 RBI. On the mound he posted a 4.96 ERA with 54 strikeouts in 16 appearances, including eight starts. As a sophomore, he started 51 games and hit .281 with seven home runs and 34 RBI.
