TWO men were charged in Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with a homicide that occurred last month.

John Butterfield, 20, and Cabreo Cash, 19, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt.

Butterfield was arraigned for the May 30 murder and armed robbery of Alfred Lightbourn while Cash was accused of abetment of murder and abetment of armed robbery.

It is alleged that on the day in question, Butterfield caused Lightbourn’s death. The 20-year-old is also accused of robbing the deceased of $250 in cash while armed with a handgun.

Cash was accused of purposely aiding and abetting in committing the offence of murder and armed robbery of the victim.

The two men were not required to enter a plea and bail was denied.

They were remanded to the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services and will receive a voluntary bill of indictment on August 26.

According to initial reports from police, shortly after 11pm on May 30 officers were called to Washington Street where a man’s body was found. On the officers’ arrival, they saw the victim on the ground. Police said: “Initial investigations revealed that the residents heard the sound of gunshots. Moments later, they went outside at the rear of their home and found the male lying on the ground suffering from gunshot injuries. Emergency Medical Services visited the scene and following their examinations, the body was pronounced lifeless.”
