THE Rotary Club of South Ocean is the newest and tenth Rotary club in the country.

RCSO was formed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and was officially chartered on February 17 with 33 members.

On June 23, RCSO held a charter and installation ceremony in preparation for the commencement of the new Rotary year which starts on July 1.

During the ceremony, the board of directors, officers and members of RCSO received their Rotary pins and membership packages.

At the event, president of RCSO Zelma Wilson, a director at EY Bahamas Limited encouraged RCSO members to remain focused, committed and prepare themselves to take action in order to advance the goals of RCSO to impact their local, regional and international communities.

RCSO consists of a diverse group of professionals from a variety of industries. Over the past year, RCSO members have participated in a blood drive, facilitated book donations to three local schools, volunteered to assist with the local COVID-19 vaccination efforts and held a virtual STEM seminar to expose students to potential STEM career options.

RCSO has also held monthly networking socials at various local restaurants and the club currently holds virtually meetings on the first and third Thursdays of each month.

Rotary is one of the oldest civic organisations, having been in existence for 110 years, with a global network of 1.2 million people. The activities of Rotary focus primarily on sustainable projects that assist in solving some of the socio-economic issues in communities and Rotary’s global mission is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through a fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
