Fishermen held for violations

ELEVEN fishermen were apprehended for fisheries violations last week by members of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force in the northern Bahamas.

While on routine patrol, RBDF patrol craft HMBS Lignum Vitae, under the command of Sub Lieutenant Miska Clarke, boarded and searched a Bahamian registered fishing vessel approximately 28 nautical miles south of Bimini.

The crew members, consisting of Bahamian nationals, were taken into custody after allegedly being found in possession of illegal fishing apparatus – diving compressors, along with fisheries products.

The vessels and crew were escorted into Bimini on Sunday and turned over to the relevant authorities for further questioning.
