Migrants guilty of illegal embarkation

SEVERAL migrants were charged in the Freeport Magistrate’s Court for illegal embarkation this week.

The group appeared before Magistrate Charlton Smith.

They are Wisly Davin, 35, Theleme Joseph, 60, Walky Mervil, 35, Aurel Roberson, 31, Benjamin St Germain, 24, Jean James, 39, Jean-Marc Silionor, 33, Joachim Merline, 31, Islande Ciceron, 33, Guerline Monypleus, 23, Joseph Chenibiu, 40, Charles Michelet, 30, Arius Jameson, 42 and Coles Charlimagne, 31.

It is alleged that on June 25, the accused were intercepted at sea by United States Coast Guard officials in US waters off West Palm Beach, Florida.

They reportedly left Grand Bahama last Wednesday.

The migrants pleaded guilty to illegal embarkation.

They were convicted and each ordered to pay $300 or in default serve one month at the Bahamas Department Of Correctional Services.
