A 35-year-old man who denied importing marijuana into the country was yesterday granted bail ahead of his trial.

Michael Turnquest appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Andrew Forbes after police alleged he was found with a quantity of Indian hemp on March 4.

He was also accused of conspiring to possess and import the drugs into the country that same day.

According to initial police reports, shortly after 7am, officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit went to a home in the western district of New Providence. Upon their arrival, they executed a search warrant and found a suitcase containing a quantity of suspected marijuana brownies, marijuana gummy candies and suspected Indian hemp oil.

During the hearing, Turnquest denied the allegations and his matter was adjourned to June 23 for service of a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI).

In the meantime, he was granted $7,000 bail.
