MAKO Aquatic Club’s boarding schooler Kierro Stubbs is making a splash for the Montverde Academy Eagles’ swim team in Orlando, Florida.

The MVA Eagles junior came off an impressive showing at the Spring Swim Championships in Orlando to qualify for the International Swim Coaches Association (ISCA) Swim Championships next week in St Petersburg. “I feel honoured. This is a huge success for me, a blessing from God,” said Stubbs about qualifying for the championships. “It’s only been six months of swimming on a varsity team and I already did so much. It’s great.”

During the ISCA meet that is scheduled for March 23-28, Stubbs will be swimming the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke as well as the 50 free.

At the Spring Swim Championships over the weekend, Stubbs produced a personal best and established two school records in the 50 yard breaststroke in 26.53 seconds for fourth place and in the 100 breaststroke in 58.21 for second.

“The meet was fantastic. I am satisfied with my swims,” Stubbs said.

Stubbs said his swimming is coming along really well and he likes his progression.

“Swimming is coming along great,” he said. “I am getting stronger everyday.”

And based on his performance, he said he’s feeling fantastic.

“Physically I feel really well,” he stressed. “I’m looking forward to ISCA.”

The 17-year-old son of Akera and Ricardo Stubbs, who previously attended Kingsway Academy and Focus Point Academy, said he’s also looking forward to competing in the Amateur Swimming Union of America (UANA) Swim Cup in Aruba.

That event is all set for May 25-28.
