On the front line

EDITOR, The Tribune.

Amid this dark and gloom

that circles our world–

a world that has spun through

so many circles of night

out into the sun –

a curtain is being pulled up

slowly, by an army of faceless,

first responders, so that most

of mankind will see the sun again.

As this gallant army fights on

relentlessly, day and night,

its fallen soldiers move on

to join hundreds of thousands

of their fellow-men, who too were felled

by this invisible, deadly enemy,

without holding a loved one’s hand;

gone without saying “Goodbye”;

Gone!....All alone!

The fallen soldiers are being replaced

by an ever-flowing stream

of new recruits – like a mighty river

being filled up by its tributaries –

knowing quite well that some of them too

will die so that others may live

to see a new day; a new normal; a new world!

And when the new day dawns,

and the sun comes over the horizon,

and history writes the history of COVID-19,

the story will be that,

that army of first responders was indeed,

an army for The Ages!
