Simms and Warriors win first WHAC tournament title in programme history

ABIGAIL Simms and the Indiana Tech Warriors won the first WHAC tournament championship in programme history.

The Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association (BLTA) congratulates Simms and the Warriors on breaking new tennis ground and making history for Indiana Tech. On Friday they claimed the Wolverine Hosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Tournament Championship after winning their first regular-season championship while simultaneously boasting an undefeated regular season.

In the championship match, Indiana Tech was the top seed in the tournament and showed their dominance by winning the championships 4-1 over the University of Northwestern Ohio.

Simms was instrumental in the win. She teamed up with Ana Gomez in the No.3 doubles position to claim the advantage for the Warriors with a 6-4 win.

With the win, The Warriors have made even more history by securing a berth in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Nationals.

The Nationals take place May 18-22 in Mobile, Alabama.

Lauryn Daxon and Missouri Vikings concluded their season in the Heart Conference Semifinals.

Despite sustaining an injury during the season, Daxon, who is now a senior, was able to come back to compete for her team.

In the quarterfinals, the team won over John Brown 4-1 with her at doubles.

In the semifinals, the Vikings were not able to advance further but ended the season against Baker in the Heart/American Midwest Conference Postseason Tournament.

The BLTA congratulates Lauryn on a successful tennis college career and in achieving good results with her team in her senior year.

Sierra Donaldson and Lee Flames advanced to the Quarterfinals of the Gulf State Conference Championships.

Sierra was instrumental in receiving an Athlete of the Week award during the tennis season.
