A mother left frustrated

EDITOR, The Tribune.

On Wednesday, May 6th, a group of eight persons from the Ministry of Education toured the entire prison facility.

On a daily basis external construction workers, electricians and contract workers enter and work throughout the prison.

Why is it that almost a year and a half later, inmates at The Department of Corrections are being denied their lawful and humane right to have visits by their loved ones?

If officers, contract workers, lawyers and special visitors can enter unvaccinated and with masks why are we as mothers and wives still being denied the right to see our husbands, sons and daughters?

The only response I get from prison officials are excuses and the Ministry of National Security does nothing but dodge by referring to the prison.

I too am waiting on a loved one that was granted clemency since December. It has been two months since Minister Dames said that all that remained to be done in some cases was to call the victims.

Minister, how does this take two months to complete? What about those persons who have no victims?

How can you brag about preparing to review a new group of persons for clemency when the first set of people after six months later are still waiting.

Yes, I, and others just like me are frustrated. Yes I and many like me have lost confidence in the promises of this FNM Government.

To the average Bahamian it is clear that every single thing you people do is purely for political gain.

Disappointed this mother’s day.

Unfortunately we like to talk as though we are a Christian nation who does right by people, however we are anything but. Doesn't matter which party is in power they are all the same and never do anything unless they can see the benefit for themselves. By now they should have a procedure in place for family to be able to visit inmates.

There are too many young men and women in jail for minor offenses. They should have done community service or paid a fine.

some people can afford good lawyers and they get them off .., but the poor. those who can not afford good lawyers go to jail.,,
