Jasrado “Jazz” Chisholm Jr made his return to the field and picked up where he left off prior to his hamstring injury.

Chisholm began his rehab assignment with the Miami Marlins’ AAA affiliate, the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, and on the second pitch of the game, hit a line drive off the left centrefield wall and slid into second with a double.

He finished 1-3 and scored a run in the Jumbo Shrimp’s 4-3 win over the Durham Bulls last night at the Athletic Park in Durham, North Carolina. Chisholm struck out in the third and hit a sharp ground out in the fifth before he was substituted for Luis Marte in the sixth inning.

It was the Jumbo Shrimp’s first of a six-game series against the Bulls and first of a 12-game road trip.

The Marlins sent Chisholm to the 10-day disabled list on April 28, following a left hamstring strain suffered in a loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.

No definitive timeline has been set regarding his time in the minors and subsequent return to the Marlins.

In 21 games this season, Chisholm is hitting .290 with a .926 OPS, slugging .551 with 20 hits, 38 total bases, 11 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, four home runs, seven RBI, and a National League leading seven stolen bases.

His 1.1 fWAR still leads all National League second basemen and ranks third in the major leagues.

He previously spent time with the Jumbo Shrimp in 2019 when the team was a AA affiliate.

In 23 Southern League games with the Jumbo Shrimp in 2019, he hit .284 with a .383 OBP, a .494 slugging percentage, four doubles, two triples, three home runs, 10 RBI, and three stolen bases.

In 112 games with the Jackson Generals and the Jumbo Shrimp, he finished in a tie for second in the Southern League in home runs (21) and fourth in triples (seven).
