A VAGRANT punched a driver who refused to give him a dollar at a traffic light, a court heard yesterday.

Police arrested Anthony Swann after he assaulted a woman as she waited for a traffic light to turn green at Cordeaux Avenue on May 11.

The court was told that around 10.50am that day, the complainant was driving with her daughter when Swann walked up to their vehicle, punched her in the face and tried to take her wallet out of her lap.

The prosecution said the woman then contacted police who responded to her complaint a short time later.

However, when they attempted to arrest the accused, he resisted violently while kicking and shouting: “Y’all ain’t taking me nowhere.”

When Swann was eventually detained, he was taken to a nearby station where he admitted the offences and told officers the woman refused to give him a dollar when he asked.

When he appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle Davis yesterday, he pleaded guilty to assault and resisting arrest.

When he was asked why he committed the offences, Swann told the magistrate he did not know which woman he “fooled with” because there were “so much other cars”.

As a result, Magistrate Rolle Davis remanded him into custody for a psychiatric evaluation. He returns to court on June 21 for sentencing.
