Jones’ double double streak ends at six

JONQUEL Jones’ double double streak ended at six games and her Connecticut Sun loss their second game of the season.

Jones finished with 22 points and five rebounds in the Sun’s 79-74 loss to the Minnesota Lynx last night at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

She shot 8-16 from the field and 2-3 from beyond the arc.

The Sun fell to 6-2 on the young season while the Lynx got their first win after four consecutive losses to start the season.

The Sun went 3-0 at home and now 3-2 on the road. The team’s other loss of the season came at 5-1 Seattle, the defending WNBA champions.

After a 5-0 start, the Sun have lost two of their last three. Jones came into the game averaging 20 points and 11.3 rebounds per game but with early foul trouble, she was limited to just six points and one rebound at the half.

Despite Jones’ slow start, the Sun got out to a 27-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained a 37-33 lead at the half. Minnesota had a two point edge in the third but the Sun still took a 52-50 lead into the fourth. The Sun led 63-55 with just over a minute left to play in the fourth, but Minnesota scored eight unanswered points to force overtime.Minnesota’s Layshia Clarendon appeared to win the game with a three pointer at the buzzer, but the call was overturned and the game went to overtime.Connecticut begins a three-game homestand tomorrow night against Las Vegas Aces at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
