SEVERAL Bahamian collegiate basketball players made their season debuts with new programmes at the JuCo level in NJCAA basketball.

Joshua Dames and Bradley Lightbourne got the Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils off to a promising start this season with an 87-65 lopsided win over Southwestern Community College Tuesday night.

Dames finished with 10 points and nine rebounds. He shot 4-5 from the field and 2-3 from three-point range and also added a pair of steals and assists in 19 minutes.

Lightbourne scored a team high 15 points off the bench on 7-11 shooting from the field and a team high three steals in just 17 minutes.

The Blue Devils return to the floor tomorrow night when they travel to face North Central Missouri College in the NCMC Challenge. KCKCC will play the second game of a back-to-back against Spoon River College on November 6.

Both freshman guards transferred to KCKCC after a COVID shortened season with Midland College Chaparrals in Midland, Texas. They completed their high school at British Columbia Christian Prep Panthers and signed their letters of intent to join the Midland College Chaparrals in Texas.

In his senior season with the Panthers, Dames averaged 18 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 steals and two assists per game while shooting 63 percent from the field and 34 percent from three-point range.

Lightbourne averaged 12 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.4 steals per game while shooting 55 percent from the field.

Richard Lowe also had a successful debut week with the Western Oklahoma State College Pioneers.

After playing sparingly in a 100-54 win over Dallas Premier Prep on Monday, Lowe got the start Tuesday night in an 85-63 win over Wayland Baptist JV.

Lowe finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots. He shot 7-8 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line.

The Pioneers will look to remain undefeated when they face the University of the Southwest JV on November 6.
