Bahamian basketball players standouts in junior college

SEVERAL Bahamian athletes delivered standout performances for their respective programmes at the Junior College level.

The Bahamian contingent for the Northeast Community College Hawks - Collin Storr, Saheed Sanusi, Emmanuel Alexandre, Jaden Strachan and Charles Joseph have shown flashes of brilliance in their first year with the programme.

In the season debut, Storr scored 17 points on 7-11 shooting from the field and added four rebounds in 18 minutes of a 105-86 loss to Morningside University JV. Strachan was the leading scorer off the bench for the Hawks with 13 points on 6-7 shooting from the field. He also added three rebounds and three assists off the bench. Sanusi finished with eight points.

In game two, Strachan finished with 11 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench of a 93-68 loss to Central Community College - Columbus.

In the Hawks’ first win of the season, 121-67, over Mount Mary University JV three of the Bahamian players reached double figures.

Alexandre made his debut in game three and posted a double double with 15 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench. Strachan had another strong performance with 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals while Sanusi had a season high 17 points, three assists and three steals.

In a 99-61 loss to Southeast Community College, Sanusi scored 10, Alexandre added 10 points and four rebounds and Strachan scored seven.

Joshua Dames and Bradley Lightbourne continue to have an immediate impact in their first season with the Kansas City Kansas Community College Blue Devils despite the team’s early season struggles.

Both players scored in double figures of a 75-69 loss to Link Year Prep on November 13.

In his first start of the season, Lightbourne scored a team high 14 points on 6-13 shooting from the field while Dames finished with 11 points off the bench.

Through five games, Lghtbourne is averaging 11.4 points on 46 percent shooting in just over 13 minutes per game while Dames is averaging 13.8 points on 40 percent shooting from the field.

Both freshmen guards transferred to KCKCC after a COVID-19 shortened season with Midland College Chaparrals in Midland, Texas.

They completed their high school British Columbia Christian Prep Panthers signed their letters of intent to join the Midland College Chaparrals in Midland, Texas.

Deyton Albury had his first impactful game off the bench for Chipola College Indians men’s basketball programme.

The freshman guard reached double figures for the first time this season with 11 points off the bench in a 74-69 win over Santa Fe College on November 13.

The Indians improved to 4-1 on the season.

And Richard Lowe finished with seven points and eight rebounds in Western Oklahoma State College’s 63-60 loss to On Point Academy.
