GARVIN Clarke posted a career-high scoring night in NCAA Division I and a pair of Bahamians posted double doubles in Division II basketball.

Clarke was one of five Akron Zips players to reach double figures with 12 points in a 99-38 win over the Wheeling Cardinals in Akron, Ohio.

The freshman guard shot a perfect 5-5 from the field, including 2-2 from three point range with four rebounds in a career high 20 minutes.

Clarke’s previous high was 10 points last season in a March 2 matchup against the Buffalo Braves. He played in 22 games and totalled 52 points, 18 rebounds and 12 assists. Clarke recently made his senior men’s national team debut at the FIBA World Cup 2023 Americas Pre-Qualifiers last July in El Salvador and scored 18 points in a pivotal win against the host country.

Akron had a quick turnaround and fell to 2-2 with a 63-43 loss to the Fordham Rams last night in the Gulf Coast Showcase.

In NCAA Division II, Malachi McCoy and Lathaniel Bastian both recorded double doubles in lopsided wins for their respective programmes.

McCoy posted a career high 17 points and 10 rebounds in his Benedict College Tigers’ 102-80 exhibition win over Clinton College Saturday afternoon. The junior forward is averaging 6.3 points, two blocked shots and a team-leading 10 rebounds per game.

Benedict had a 44-40 lead at the half before taking advantage of their size height and attacking the basket in the second half. Benedict scored 54 of their points in the paint and scored 22 second-chance points.

The Tigers will return to action today, travelling to take on Augusta University at 7:30pm.

Bastian posted his first double double as a member of the Rams and continues to be a force on both ends of the floor in his first year with the programme.

He finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 110-55 win over Dallas Christian on the final day of the Javelina Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Bastian is averaging 13.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game and the Rams lead the Lone Star Conference at 4-0.

The Rams are scheduled to play their home opener next weekend as they host the Ed Messbarger Classic at the Junell Center beginning on Friday, November 26.
