A REPEAT offender who removed his ankle bracelet was once again sentenced to time on remand yesterday after admitting he broke into a man’s home to steal last week.

Gregory Davis, Jr, 29, was arrested after he went into Thorn Curry’s First Street home and stole $2,810 worth of the man’s personal belongings on November 18.

Yesterday, he was also charged with violating the conditions of the bail he received from the Supreme Court for another stealing offence and causing $1,652 worth of damage to a Migrafill Security electronic GPS tracking unit between September and November.

The prosecution said a Migrafill manager told police Davis Jr, who was a participant of their monitoring programme, had a device that their system was reading as “inoperable for some period”.

The court was told that the security company sent a communication to the defendant asking him to report to his nearest police station; however, when he did not, they requested police action.

When Davis Jr was arrested, officers discovered the monitoring device that had been attached to his leg was no longer there.

During his interview with officers, he admitted removing the ankle bracelet.

When he was questioned in police custody, he also owned up to breaking into Mr Curry’s home and stealing an assortment of items, including Nike and Clarkes shoes, two watches and a 10-karat Cuban link chain.

When he appeared before Magistrate Samuel McKinney yesterday, Davis Jr admitted to all the offences.

He was subsequently sentenced to 18 months in prison for housebreaking and ordered to compensate Mr Curry and Migrafill Security for their missing items.

Magistrate McKinney said if he didn’t, Davis Jr could risk spending an additional month behind bars.

Yesterday, the defendant was also fined $1,500 for violating the conditions of his bail.

If he fails to pay the fine, he will be sentenced to an additional six months in custody.
