POLICE are investigating after a man was found shot dead in the driver’s seat of a running car on Hospital Lane last night.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Audley Peters, shortly after 8pm officers were called to the area after receiving information about gunshot sounds in the community.

“Upon arrival of first responding officers, they met a grey Nissan March with (its) engine running parked at an angle on the corner of Hospital Lane and an unknown named road. The officers inspected the vehicle and discovered a dark male slumped over the front seat,” the police press liaison officer told reporters at the scene.

ASP Peters said Emergency Medical Services were called and later pronounced the victim dead.

“Following their assessment of the body, a male was pronounced lifeless on scene having appeared to be suffering from wounds consistent with gunshots,” he added.

ASP Peters said the victim appeared to be in his late 20s or early 30s.

He also noted that details of the incident were “sketchy” at the time and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

“Again, we continue to appeal to members of the public to continue to report persons who they are familiar with being in possession of firearms so that we, the police department, can take action,” ASP Peters added.

“As of late, we would’ve taken a number of persons in custody after finding them in possession of firearms and those persons are before the courts now waiting their day for trial.”

The country’s latest murder comes after a man was found shot dead in Eleuthera early Sunday morning.

It also follows a string of shooting incidents over the weekend that left seven people injured and in hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 502-9991 or Crime Stoppers at 328-TIPS (8477).

Please stop showing dead bodies on stretchers or at the scene of the incident. It's tacky. People deserve dignity.
