The collegiate soccer season is currently underway in the United States and Laurann Brown, Gabrielle Simms, Tate Curry, Tyra McKenzie and Ian Lowe are some of the Bahamian players making their presence felt for their individual schools.

Brown and Lady Hornets undefeated

Although she had limited action on the field, Harris-Stowe defender Laurann Brown has helped the Lady Hornets get off to an impressive 10-0 start with their latest victory coming in a 4-1 decision over Lyon College on Saturday at the Hornets field.

With the win, the Lady Hornets now sit atop the American Midwest Conference standings with a conference record of 3-0. They will head on the road in Colombia on Saturday to play their next game against Columbia College.

The 5-foot, 7-inch Brown, now in her junior year, transferred to Harris-Stowe after playing for Dodge City Community College last year.

The 20-year-old Brown is a former student of St Anne’s High School.

Simms and Roos on two-game win streak

Grand Bahamian Gabrielle Simms and the Kansas City Women’s Soccer picked up their second-straight victory on Sunday in Fargo, North Dakota with a victory over North Dakota State.

The 5-10 midfielder, who previously played for James Madison High School, is the daughter of Craig and Della Simms.

At 19-years old, Simms is also a tennis player who has three siblings, Hannah-Joy, Abigail and Asher, all of whom play tennis.

The Roos will return to Kansas City to host South Dakota State on Friday at 7pm before they take on South Dakota to Durwood on Sunday at 1pm.

Lowe and Tigers suffer second loss

After riding a seven-game winning streak, Olivet Nazarene University’s freshman goalkeeper Ian Lowe and his Tigers men’s soccer team dropped their second loss of the season in a 3-2 overtime defeat at the hands of Cardinal Stritch.

A member of the Dynamos Football Club, 18-year-old Lowe is the child of Jason and Heather Lowe. He was home schooled before he headed off to Bourbonnais, Illinois for college. Lowe and the Tigers, whose first loss came in a 3-1 decision in their season opener on August 21 against Lourdis, will be back in action today at 7pm when they face St Francis Illinois.

Cuffy and Tigers lose again

Dodge City Community College’s freshman Tate Cuffy and her Conquistadors were hoping to continue their dismal season, but they dropped another game on Saturday.

The Conquistadors got blanked 2-0 by the Coffeyville Ravens in a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJOCC) clash to 1-7 on the season.

After winning their previous game 1-0 in double overtime to snap a seven-game losing streak, the Conquistadors will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Neosho County Community College. Cuffy, 21, was home schooled and a member of the Western Warriors Football Club.

McKenzie and the Vikings on a roll

Missouri Valley College junior and the Vikings women’s soccer team extended their winning streak to six straight with a 3-2 nipping of Graceland University on Saturday.

The Vikings pushed their overall record to 8-1, including a 6-0 mark at home and 5-0 in conference play. The Vikings will be back in action 5pm today when they take on Evangel University. McKenzie, 20, is a graduate of Queen’s College and a member of the Dynamos Football Club.
