A MAN who admitted punching his former girlfriend’s boyfriend during an argument was yesterday placed on six months’ probation.

Mark Hanna was arrested after he punched his ex-girlfriend’s current partner in the face in May.

He pleaded guilty to one count of assault when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Derence Rolle Davis.

The court was told that the complainant had told police that he was in the Finlayson Street area when Hanna approached him and assaulted him by punching him in his face. After he requested police action, officers who investigated his complaint arrested the accused. When he was questioned in police custody, he admitted being in a physical fight with the complainant.

Yesterday, Hanna told the magistrate the man who reported him to police also has a child with his ex-girlfriend, with whom he also has a child. He claimed he started the fight because the complainant kept calling his phone and threatening him.

“He would say stuff like ‘When I see you, you better be ready for me’ and other negative things,” Hanna said.

After listening to his explanation Magistrate Rolle Davis placed Hanna on probation for six months. He warned him if he failed to be of good behaviour during that time frame, he could risk spending a month at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services.
