Property Tax giveaway

EDITOR, The Tribune.

One of the giveaways that we became so accustomed with from the outgoing Government was concerning the substantial arrears of unpaid Real Property Tax — some $600m on personal properties.

An amnesty - incentive to pay your obligation - a straight up “giveaway” call it all you want fiscal irresponsible knowing the state of our national finances.

So the concession ends today..... who cares about those who pay annually who in some cases scrape to gather their obligation now the outgoing Government saw it fit to give a gratuitous reward for not paying taxes.

Before September 16, Finance said proudly they collected $27m clearly and obviously monies which the tax payers who were in arrears all had but the outgoing Government saw it fit... ethical and meritorious to reward not paying obligated taxes.

Can the new Treasury people - Simon Wilson, not acting but substantive Financial Secretary - confirm how much was collected and how much was given away in discounts? This taxpayer wants to know.
