TWO men and a woman who denied being in possession of two loaded firearms and a quantity of marijuana will stand trial later this year.

Lloyd Minnis, Lavardo Paul and Antoinette McPhee were arrested after police alleged they found them with a silver and black .21 glock, a black shotgun as well as 10 ounces of Indian hemp on October 5.

Officers said they recovered nine rounds of .40 ammunition and six shotgun bullets from the accused that day.

During their hearing before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt Evans, the three pleaded not guilty to two counts each of possession of an unlicensed firearm and illegal ammunition and a single count of simple possession.

As a result, their case was adjourned to December 9 for trial.

In the meantime, Minnis and Paul were each granted $10,000 bail for the drug offence and another $7,000 bail each for the firearm charge.

Because Paul was convicted and sentenced for a gun offence in 2017, the prosecution objected to him receiving bail.

In response, his attorney, Wendawn Frazier, argued that it has been nearly five years since Paul had committed the crime. She also contended that there was no indication that he would reoffend in the future.

After listening to submissions from both sides, Magistrate Vogt Evans said she would accede to the application of the Crown.

This means that Paul will remain in custody until his trial.
