Swimmer Davante Carey and Bearcats improve to 7-0

DAVANTE Carey had an active weekend for the McKendree Bearcats Swimming as the No.4 ranked team improved to 7-0 in dual meets this season.

Carey finished with two individual wins and was also a member of a pair of first place medley relay teams at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex Pool in O’Fallon, Illinois.

On Saturday, the Bearcats topped No.15 Missouri S and T (179-81) and No.14 Delta State (203-94).

Carey finished first in the 100 yard backstroke in 50.13 seconds. He also swam the lead leg on the winning 200 yard medley relay team that finished first in 1:30.03.

As a team, the Bearcats had wins in 13 of the 16 contested events which also included four NCAA ‘B’ standard qualifiers.

They began the weekend with Friday’s dual meet wins over Saint Louis University (209-80) and Truman State (222-62).

Carey was again first in the 100 yard backstroke, in 50.11.

He also swam leadoff on the first place winning 400 yard medley relay team that finished in 3:18.37.

The Bearcats won 15 of the 16 events. They began the dual meet schedule on October 8 with a 156.50-141.50 win over Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.

Carey was a member of the winning 200 yard medley relay team in 1:30.97 and the third place 400 yard medley relay team which finished in 3:07.24.

Individually, he finished second in 100 yard backstroke in 50.48 and was third in the 200 yard backstroke in 1:57.24.

They followed with another pair of double dual wins against Lindenwood University (178-120) and Drury University (194-101) Panthers last weekend. They won 194-101 against the Panthers and 178-120 over the Lions.

Carey swam the backstroke leg on the first place 400-yard medley relay team which swam 3:18.45.

Individually, it was another 100-yard backstroke win when he swam 49.59.

The Bearcats continue the season on November 5 with a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup on the road against the University of Indianapolis.
