A MIAMI foundation donated school supplies to a school in Grand Bahama yesterday.

Beacon for Change Foundation made the donation to the Beacon School as part of an ongoing initiative that spans over a decade.

Ravanno Ferguson, treasurer of Beacon for Change Inc, said they have been making donations to the schools for the past 11 years.

He said the initiative is very important to Beacon of Change chairman Sonless Martin, Jr, a Grand Bahamian native who now resides in Miami, Florida.

“This year is the 11th year we have been doing this, and unfortunately, Mr Sonless Martin could not be here today, but he wanted to supply the students here with the necessary resources for back to school. We adopted this school and every year wanted to supply them with the necessary supplies,” Mr Ferguson said.

The Beacon School is an institution that caters to special needs children.

Mr Ferguson said that the school principal made a request for notebooks, crayons, pencils and other necessities for their primary and junior students.

He pledged that Beacon for Change will continue to support the school. Last year, the foundation donated some 20 laptops for the entire school faculty.

Principal Titi McKenzie Moss was pleased about the continued support they have been receiving from the organisation. She said the school is currently using virtual learning.

“The school is thrilled that Beacon for Change has been donating supplies to the students for the past 11 years. We are so grateful for this donation even though our kids are doing virtual learning because these are supplies they will still need while they are home and when they come back to school for face-to-face (learning).”
