Another award win for Jonquel

Jonquel Jones claimed another league wide award and her Connecticut Sun won their 10th consecutive game to improve their league leading record to 22-6.

Jones finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals and a block in the Sun’s dominant 83-56 win over the Dallas Wings Tuesday night at the College Park Center In Arlington, Texas.

The Sun led wire to wire in their 16th double digit win of the season.

The win came just hours after Jones was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the fourth time this season and 11th time in her WNBA career.

During Week 11, Jones posted her 14th double double of the season with 31 points and 14 rebounds in an 85-75 win over the Washington Mystics on Tuesday, August 31. Additionally, she blocked three shots, secured two steals and shot 71 percent on 7-12 shooting from the field.

This season, Jones has also been named Kia WNBA Player of the Month two times, most recently for the month of August.

The Sun will look to extend their win streak to 11 games Thursday night against the Los Angeles Sparks.

In August, Jones was named the WNBA’s Kia Eastern Conference Player of Month and continues to build her case for the 2021 league MVP award. The perennial All-Star forward averaged 18.7 points and 11 rebounds per game while shooting 51 percent from the field to lead the Sun to a perfect 7-0 record in August.

Jones was also named Player of the Month for June.

In addition to her second Player of the Month award of the season, it also marked the third of Jones’ career. She is one of just five players this season to win the award twice along with Breanna Stewart (Seattle Storm), Tina Charles (Washington Mystics), A’ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces) and Sylvia Fowles (Minnesota Lynx)

Jones was also named the Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month in June.

Through 23 games this season, Jones currently ranks third in the league in scoring at 19.9 points per game and leads the league on the board at 10.9 rebounds per game while shooting 53 percent from the field, 38 percent from three and 80 percent from the free throw line.

On WNBA All-Star night, Jones delivered an MVP caliber performance in a historic win for Team WNBA over the USA Olympic team and a second place finish in the MTN DEW 3-Point Contest. She finished with 18 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots in Team WNBA’s 93-85 win over the Olympians at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
