Fiasco in Afghanistan

EDITOR, The Tribune.

The decision of great powers have exacting and long lasting effects upon other nations and their populations in the world. They always have.

America has been the self professed “Policeman of the Globe” since WW2. This power broker has manipulated, crushed and created major upheavals throughout the world. The US took over this position and responsibility from Britain and France, whose global empires had failed and declined terribly. There is a massive cost to policing an empire. Both of these nations collapsed from the weight of this debit. America was the rising star of economic and political intrigued. Using their various intelligence agencies this new Goliath saw progressiveness as a step towards their greatest enemy, Communism. America upheld and supported various dictatorships, supplying their military with armaments, training and money so that the threat of “Communism” would be stopped somewhere else away from American soil. The US had their own political cleansing with the assistance of Senator McCarthy.

Afghanistan experienced all that the above mentioned policy could bring – the 9/11 attack gave America’s military complex 100% support in attacking “Terrorism” globally. Trillions have been spent by America and her allies in places such as Iraqi, Panama, Africa, Afghanistan, Latin and Central America and even in the Caribbean. Every People Movement was seen as both communistic or un-American enemies that needed to be crushed. America has shown they would rather support tyrants than the little guy, the working class or those oppressed by religious, feudal or political monsters. Notice all the leaders of these so-called “monsters” once worked for or with America as their military supports, intelligence sources or simply as the foot of America crushing those America could not openly crush.

Noriega, Bin Laden, Assad, Pinochet, The Contra’s to name a few. It does not matter their beliefs so long as America gets what it wants.

The world powers knew what will happen in Afghanistan, as they did at the end of the Vietnam War and most wars lost to primitive little people. America entered the war in Afghanistan in the hope to win itself redemption from its military failures of the past. Sure they wanted to kill terrorists, seek revenge and stop the opium trade also. Look what 20,000-30,000 hills people did in Afghanistan in a short time. As in the Vietnam struggle there were other nations helping these people. The Taliban has the assistance of Pakistan, China and their old enemies Russia who supplied numerous weapons to these fighters.

Afghanistan will have a blood bath. Like all Dictatorships our the wests friends are their enemies. The Taliban’s religious judgements upon western views, women’s rights, western education will come a cleansing of the population. Everything the Taliban should do will not be done. Instead of murdering professionals the new administration in Afghanistan should welcome their educated population to become a part of the “New” Afghanistan, but that will not happen. The Taliban is a loosely knit group who will in time fight among themselves. The brutal cycle for power in this impoverished nation will begin again and again sucking into its history more death and destruction.

The world powers have no answers to how Afghanistan can get out of its cycle of death. There are only people in Afghanistan after all, no visible energy or mineral wealth that would interest the greed of the G20 and their Corporate supporters.
