HOSPITALISATIONS HIT NEW RECORD

COVID-19 hospital cases have climbed to a new record of 195.

In its September 8 dashboard, released yesterday, the Ministry of Health also reported 136 new cases of the virus. The country now has 19,275 confirmed cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic. There are 3,400 active cases.

The majority of these new cases — 115 — are in New Providence.

Health officials also said that of the 195 cases in hospital, 47 are in Doctors Hospital; nine are at the South Beach Acute Care and Referral Centre; 113 are at Princess Margaret Hospital and 26 are in Grand Bahama Health Services.

Eighteen people are now in the intensive care unit, up from 15 the previous day.

The startling numbers came a day after health officials confirmed the highly contagious Delta variant is the predominant coronavirus strain in the country.
