Man changes plea over gun and drugs

A Grand Bahama man was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a number of serious offenses, including possession of a firearm, ammunition and dangerous drugs in Freeport this week.

Walton Wright and Kathleen Pinder re-appeared before Magistrate LaQuay Laing yesterday.

They were both initially charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply.

However, Wright elected to change his not guilty pleas to guilty on all four counts.

According to the particulars, on January 6 this year officers executed a search warrant at a residence situated on Jobson Avenue where they discovered firearms and drugs and arrested the pair.

Magistrate Laing convicted and sentenced Wright to three years on the firearm charge.

On count two, possession of ammunition, Wright was convicted and sentenced to two years; on count three, possession of dangerous drugs with intent to supply, he was convicted and sentenced to two years.

And on count four, possession of dangerous drugs, Wright was convicted and sentenced to nine months.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Prosecutor Sergeant 2631 Calsey Arthur withdrew the charges against Kathleen Pinder, who was discharged.
