JASRADO “Jazz” Chisholm Jr reached another milestone in his standout rookie season with the Miami Marlins.

Chisholm had the first multi home-run game of his Major League Baseball career and scored the game winning run in the Marlins’ 8-7 win over the Washington Nationals in extra innings last night at loanDepot Park in Miami, Florida.

The 23-year-old infielder is now third on the team with 17 home runs. He finished 2-4 with three RBI, scored two runs, and added his team leading 22nd stolen base of the season.

After a ground out in his first at bat, Chisholm returned in the third inning to hit No.16 on the season.

Facing a 2-0 count against Erick Fedde, Chisholm took an 89 mph cutter and drove it 415 feet over the right field wall to give the Marlins their first run of the game.

In the fifth inning, Chisholm hit No. 17 at the end of a seven pitch at bat against Fedde.

He worked his way to a full count and fouled off a four seam fastball on pitch six. On the next pitch, he took an 80 mph curveball 427 feet over the right centre field wall for his second solo shot of the night.

In the seventh, Chisholm hit a sac fly to score Eddy Alvarez and brought the Marlins within one, 7-6. He struck out on four pitches in the bottom of the ninth in his first matchup against reliever Tanner Rainey, but his late game heroics in the 10th inning gave the Marlins a walk off win for the second consecutive night.

Chisholm began the inning on second base and eventually stole third. After Nationals reliever Sam Clay intentionally walked Jesus Sanchez, he followed a wild pitch in the dirt which allowed Chisholm to race home and score the game winning run.

Last night’s game marked Chisholm’s first home runs since a 3-2 win over the New York Mets on September 9.

Chisholm, the seventh Bahamian to reach the Major Leagues, has been one of the few brights spots offensively for the struggling Marlins this season, fourth in the National League East at 64-86.

In 112 games this season, Chisholm is hitting .254 with a .729 OPS, slugging .423 with 106 hits, 86 total bases, 66 runs scored, 18 doubles, four triples, 17 home runs, 49 RBI and 22 stolen bases.

This season, the Marlins also celebrated Chisholm’s impact on the club with “Bahamian Heritage Night” at loanDepot Park on June 12.
