A TEENAGER who admitted having an assortment of ammunition must pay $7,500 worth of fines if he doesn’t want to spend two years of his life behind bars.

Brad Sands, 19, was arrested after he was found with 44 rounds of .380 ammunition in August 2020, without being a holder of a firearm certificate.

Police said Sands was also found with 12 live rounds of .45 ammunition, eight live rounds of 9mm ammunition along with 12 ounces of Indian hemp around the same time.

After denying the allegations during his initial arraignment, Sands returned to court yesterday to plead guilty to the offences.

He was subsequently fined $4,000 or two years in prison for possession of ammunition with the intent to supply, $2,500 or a year on remand for the two other counts of ammunition possession and $1,000 for the single count of simple drug possession.

Magistrate Samuel McKinney said the youngster must pay a minimum of $2,500 before he is released from custody.
