A magistrate yesterday discharged a woman who used foul language in the presence of officers who attempted to break up an argument between her and another woman.

Linique Brennen was arrested for behaving in a disorderly manner and using obscene language to the annoyance of a police inspector on September 10.

She admitted to the offences during her arraignment before Magistrate Shaka Serville.

The court was told that around 10.35 on the night in question, officers conducting a mobile patrol near Thelma Gibson Primary School observed a white Mitsubishi vehicle parked in the middle of the road. When they pulled over to check the car, they found Brennen and another female engaged in a heated argument. The prosecution said when officers asked both of the women to get out of the vehicle, Brennen continued to curse and at one point, even attempted to walk off as officers were speaking to her. She was subsequently arrested and taken to a nearby station.

When she was questioned in custody, she admitted using profanity while she was arguing with the other woman, but denied cursing or behaving in a disorderly manner towards the officers.

Yesterday, Brennen told the magistrate she acted in the heat of the moment and insisted she was remorseful for her actions.

In response, Magistrate Serville granted her an absolute discharge, but warned her to use better judgement in the future.
