So our esteemed cabinet minister Wayne Munroe feels his 40-year-old male client got a “too severe sentence” for having sex with a 14-year-old child. He said the child consented so everything is presumably rosy in the garden. Well, Mr Munroe, if the girl was 12, 10 or 8 and consented is that similarly fine by you? The reason why civilized societies have age of consent laws is to protect children. Guess why, Munroe? Yes, they are children they are not emotionally or intellectually developed so we protect them. Your client is a paedophile and in a first world country they would throw away the key and even on his release he would be carefully monitored.

As a matter of interest, Mr Munroe - and please reply in writing to The Tribune – if the 14-year-old child were your daughter would you be so forgiving?

Republic or not? The Bahamas has a decision to make. It should be fairly simple. Our former colonial and slave masters still have an extraordinary sphere of influence over the Bahamas. A lot of the fine old buildings in London were built off the profits of slavery. Going back to paedophiles one of their own royal family would be doing hard time now if not for power and money. Their present Prime Minister Boris Johnson referred to all black people: as “Pic- canniness with water melon smiles.” Daily Telegraph newspaper quote in the year 2002.

Why should we kow-tow and be obsequious to such a country? These type of people to still be our masters? Surely the question is a no brainer?

Finally can someone explain to me how a former PLP cabinet minister (and former union boss) has been living - so I am told - like a Lyford Cay millionaire on his cabinet salary of $1,850 a week for many, many years?

The reason why I ask is can anyone else see the shear hypocrisy, effrontery and irony of any PLP government criticising an FNM government of corruption?

Is this a case of the pot calling the kettle black?
