AN AMERICAN couple were fined in a Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of disorderly behaviour, obstruction and causing harm to a police officer at Lynden Pindling International Airport.

Khairi Shabazz, 30, and Tanisha Jackson, 37, both of Richmond Virginia, stood before Magistrate Samuel McKinney on multiple charges. The pair faced shared charges of disorderly behaviour, obscene language, resisting arrest and obstruction.

Shabazz solely faced charges of possession of dangerous drugs, assaulting a police officer and causing harm.

On July 28 at the JetBlue checkin counter at LPIA, the pair reportedly acted disorderly by flailing their hands about and cursing. There they used expletives as they yelled at the airline ticketing agent that they just want to get home.

When officers approached them over their behaviour, the pair continued to act erratically with both cursing their arresting officers and telling them to let go of their respective significant others.

It was while resisting arrest that Shabazz caused harm to Constable 4344 Stubbs. Shabazz was further found with a half gram of Indian hemp in his possession that same day.

They would later admit to the offense and in court the pair pleaded guilty to all charges against them them.

In view of both defendants having no priors, the magistrate ordered Shabazz to pay a fine of $300 or one month for the drug charge and another $500 fine or three months for the obstruction charge. Shabazz was further ordered to compensate Constable Stubbs $200 or one month for the causing harm charge as well as facing another $500 fine or one month for the assaulting an officer charge.

Jackson faced a similar $500 fine or three months for her obstruction charge.

The remaining charges agaisnt the defendants were withdrawn.
