A MAN was remanded to prison yesterday after being found with an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.

Lorenzo Wilson, 26, represented by Attorney Alex Morley, appeared before Chief Magistrate Joyann Ferguson-Pratt on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and possession of ammunition.

On July 29 in New Providence, Wilson was reportedly found by police with a black Smith & Wesson .40 pistol with the serial number erased. He was further found in possession of 15 live rounds of .40 ammunition.

Wilson pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution objected to bail on the basis that Wilson had a previous conviction of a similar nature. He previously served an 18-month sentence for a firearm conviction dating back to April 19, 2016. Mr Morley said his client is not a flight risk and would not interfere with any witnesses should he be granted bail.

The Chief Magistrate went on to deny Wilson bail but informed him of his right to reapply for it before the Supreme Court. Until then, he was remanded to prison. His trial will commence on December 8.
